Balancing work, and a career, with being a carer can be a challenge. In fact, studies find that ~40% of parents of children with additional needs will leave the workforce to become a full time caregiver, with the remainder making workplace accommodations, such as becoming part time or taking more days off. Interestingly, the same research shows that the experience of caregiving makes carers incredibly effective in the workplace.
You’re not alone as a working carer, and you have rights. These rights come from both the law, and your contract of employment, which may have more generous rights than the statutory rights in the country you live.
In the UK, you can learn more about your statutory rights as an employee on the government website, here.
