What I Learned About Caregiving, Tech, and Teamwork at Heba

Hi, I’m Charlotte! I’m an undergraduate student at Boston University, originally from New York City, and am interning here at Heba while I am studying abroad in London for the semester! Working here has been so rewarding, and getting to see the positive impact that Heba has on caregivers around the world has been incredible to watch. I have learned so much about corporate life and have loved getting involved, whether it be in the newsletter, app testing, or social media.

I was initially drawn to working at Heba because of their mission statement. I grew up with an autistic older sister and a single mother, so I experienced the gap in support for caregivers firsthand. From keeping track of medications, appointments, or behaviors, while also trying to cut out time for yourself, it can be draining. In speaking with Sam, Heba’s co-founder and CEO, his message completely resonated with me, and I was eager to get started. Being a caregiver can be overwhelming, stressful, and isolating, and being part of a resource that works toward alleviating some of that burden has been really empowering. Getting to see the tangible benefits that Heba has brought to so many parents, families, and caregivers is what has made my time here all the more special and inspiring.

I had never worked at a tech start-up before, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect–apart from ping pong tables and hoodies, maybe? Instead, what I found was a collaborative, driven team focused on solving real-world problems with creativity and passion–and no ping-pong tables thus far. From day 1, I have been encouraged to contribute ideas, pose critiques, ask questions, and take initiative in ways that felt meaningful to me. Sam was keen to let me focus on the areas that I found most exciting and where I felt I could contribute the most, which speaks to the team’s overall effort to adapt and celebrate individual strengths. More than anything, Heba thrives on feedback–an approach that highlights their determination to continuously evolve in response to their users’ needs and to build a brand and platform that feels genuine, useful, and supportive. As I wrap up my time here, I am so grateful I was able to spend part of my London experience here at Heba and cannot wait to see the amazing work that continues to grow from this space and the inspiring people behind it. :)
